To my knowledge, there are three dominant portrayals in ancient myth and history of the Amazons mating habits; they visited their male neighbours once a year for procreation; they mated with the male slaves they’ve captured during their endless wars against mankind once or twice a year; they created a new society with the men of Sythia and formed families in which the Amazon women retained their previous freedoms. Astonishing as it sounds, Azzarello has either invented a new and yet-more derogatory spin on the Amazons, or he’s opted for the most woman-hating ancient take on the myth that he could find. Either way, it’s a despicably regressive business, and those who support Azzarello because of his fealty to ancient sources ought to know that they’re talking piffle.
The only good thing about the amount of nonsensical storytelling and outright bullshit that DC and Marvel have put out lately is that there’s the potential for this guy to sound off on it.
When a reader connects to a concept like The Amazons as a beacon of positive female empowerment, it’s devastating to have those myths, characters, and culture turned into one-dimensional monsters out of nowhere in three pages of a comic book that you previously loved. Absolutely devastating.
One of the most common words to be thrown around on the Internet at women by people who disagree with them is the word Feminazi. The implication of Feminazi generally being that the woman in question is an unreasonable militant feminist that hates men. It’s a horrible and generally false stereotype that is shockingly pervasive. So when you take something that is the symbol of positive female empowerment and more broadly a symbol of feminism and present it as exactly that stereotype (except even more extreme) then it just feeds into all that is wrong with those ideas.

Wonder Woman likes cake!
And it’s her birthday so here are some cakes!
I think this is my favorite.
I bet that’s Chris Sims’ cake.
I want all of these cakes so bad. Give them to me please.
Follow up to the Wonder Woman inspired dress! I thought I’d take a stab at depicting a more mature and glamourous outfit based on Wondy’s costume. Also, I’m on an ombre fabric kick right now, and I wanted to see if it’d work with Wondy’s costume colour scheme :)
You can see a slightly different version (just more stars tossed in XD) here.
Now that’s out my head, back to work work work!! (I’msobehindonstuffandyetI’mdoingstufflikethisarrghghghwhyyyy)
